What we collect

We collect the minimum amount of data we need to run Clinkit safely. Specifically:

Account data

• Name, email, phone number, and profile photo you provide during signup
• Username and bio you set
• Password (encrypted, never stored in plain text)

Verification data

• BVN or NIN numbers for seller verification (hashed and encrypted)
• Bank account details for payouts (stored by our payment provider, not us)
• Government ID when you apply for premium seller verification

Transaction data

• Order history, amounts, and timestamps
• Shipping addresses (visible to the specific seller only for that order)
• Messages between buyers and sellers

Usage data

• Pages viewed, items searched, listings created
• Device type and IP address (for security and fraud prevention)

How we use it

We use your data to:

• Operate Clinkit — showing you listings, processing orders, managing escrow
• Verify identities and prevent fraud
• Process payments and payouts
• Resolve disputes fairly
• Send transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, etc.)
• Improve the product based on usage patterns
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your data to advertisers or data brokers. Ever.

Who we share it with

We only share data with third parties when necessary to run Clinkit:

• Payment providers: To process escrow and payouts
• Logistics partners: To facilitate shipping (only the specific address for the specific order)
• Identity verification: To verify BVN/NIN with NIBSS and NIMC
• Cloud infrastructure: To host the platform securely
• Law enforcement: If legally compelled by a Nigerian court order

We require all partners to maintain equivalent privacy standards.

How we protect it

We take security seriously. Our measures include:

• End-to-end encryption for all sensitive data in transit
• Encrypted storage for all data at rest
• Passwords hashed using bcrypt
• Two-factor authentication for accounts
• Regular security audits and penetration testing
• Strict access controls — only authorized team members can view user data, and only when necessary

Your rights

Under Nigerian data protection law, you have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Correct any inaccurate information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Object to certain uses of your data
• Withdraw consent at any time
